Mentors

The benefits of being a Mentor

  • Share experiences and knowledge
  • Strengthen active listening skills
  • Enhance own relationship building skills
  • Are exposed to different perspectives, ideas and approaches
  • Re-energise careers with a sense of fulfilment
  • Gain an added sense of purpose and responsibility for careers.

Eligibility and commitment required

Mentor candidates must meet these criteria for eligibility and commit to the following:

  • Be a currently practising dentist with at least seven years’ experience in general or specialist practice, in either private or public sectors
  • Retain membership throughout the program
  • Be available to attend an introductory workshop to meet your mentor and an induction session
  • Be available to meet face to face (or an alternative method such as Zoom or phone) with your mentor once per month (times and locations by agreement) for the duration of the program
  • Be available to attend a social event mid-program
  • Adhere to the Mentoring Program Code of Conduct.

No previous mentoring experience is necessary but will be looked upon favourably. Recent graduates participating in this program are both locally and overseas trained, and a place in the program is dependent upon the number of available mentees. The ADAVB and the program facilitator administer the selection and matching of mentors and mentees. Where possible, matching will be based on location, sector and shared professional interests. If at any stage you cannot continue in the program, please notify your mentee and the program manager
