Medical practitioners encouraged to screen for oral conditions in those living with diabetes

In the latest article for the AMA Vicdoc magazine prepared by the ADAVB’s Oral Health Committee, medical practitioners were encouraged to look out for oral health complications in patients with diabetes.

The article also aims to increase awareness of oral health conditions related to diabetes and encourage medical practitioners to refer patients to dental practitioners for ongoing management of any oral health conditions they are experiencing.

Oral health conditions are often a forgotten complication of diabetes, and there is a lack of Medicare funding to support those living with diabetes to access dental care. The ADAVB continues to work to improve awareness of oral health conditions related to diabetes and the link between oral and general health.
