Sensitivity and management of sensitivity: A Panel Discussion

Triaging and managing Dental sensitivity effectively and efficiently is essential for keeping our patients happy!

Dental sensitivity can impact patient’s lives drastically and accordingly can create Dental emergencies that need to be addressed urgently. 
How can these  issues can be managed in an effective and timely manner when appointment books are already full? 
From diagnosis to management, the key is in triaging patients starting at the front desk, so they end up with the most appropriate Practitioner.
This Program is designed to help you create a ‘Triage Pathway’ appropriate for your Practice turning difficult patient management issues into a win/win for Patients, staff and Practitioners alike.

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

  • To be able to actively train Front desk Staff to ‘Triage’ patients with Dental Sensitivity
  • To identify & diagnose the aetiology of dental sensitivity 
  • How to identify to treat the patient’s sensitivity
  • Ongoing maintenance plan with most appropriate Practitioner

Dr Adam Keyes-Tilley 
BDSc(Melb) FRACDS FICCDE
General Dental Practitioner
Dr Adam Keyes-Tilley completed his BDSc at Melbourne University, moving directly into Private and Public General Dental Practice. Within 2 years of graduating he establishing Complete Dental Care St Kilda Road, now a five chair facility where he still Practices. Outside of General Dentistry his main interests lie in managing combined orthodontic, restorative and implant rehabilitation cases at Complete Dental Care.  Dr Keyes-Tilley, throughout his career, has remained committed to Professional Development, successfully completing his FRACDS (Sunderland Prize) and then his FICCDE. His past appointments include President of the AOSVB, Chair of the MRACDS Board of Studies and Chair of the ADAVB CPD Committee as well as mentoring younger Practitioners through MRACDS and ADA programs.

Dr Francis Chan 
BDSc (Hons), DCD (Endo), FRACDS (GDP)
Endodontics
Dr Francis Chan completed undergraduate and specialist endodontic training at the University of Melbourne. He received the RACDS Prize, and top marks in microbiology in the RACDS Primary Examination. He holds Fellowship with the RACDS in General Dental Practice. Francis works full-time in private practice and serves as Secretary and Treasurer of the Australian Endodontic Society (Vic) and Treasurer of the Asian Pacific Endodontic Confederation. He was previously Co-Convenor of Endodontics for Melbourne’s Doctor of Dental Surgery program.

Dr Hossam El Haddad 
BDS, FRACDS, DCD (Pros), MRACDS (Pros)
Prosthodontics
Hossam obtained a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in 2015, and graduated with a Doctorate of Clinical Dentistry in Prosthodontics from the University of Melbourne in 2018.
Hossam now works at private specialist practices in Moonee Ponds and Melbourne CBD. He enjoys ongoing involvement within the academic field as a lecturer and clinical supervisor at the University of Melbourne’s dental school, where he is also the coordinator of the implant component for DDS students. 
He is a fellow of the ITI, a member of the Australian Dental Association and the Australian Osseointegration Society. Hossam further serves as a reviewer for the Australian Dental Journal, and a committee member for the Australian Prosthodontic Society.

Dr Larissa Ong 
Dr Larissa Ong completed her specialist postgraduate training in Periodontics at the University of Melbourne. Her special interests are in soft tissue grafting and gingival (gum) recession coverage procedures, the non-surgical and surgical management of periodontal disease and dental implants.
Dr Ong is the current President of the Australian Society of Periodontology Victorian Branch and educational committee member of the Australian Osseointegration Society. She has served as a clinical demonstrator and examiner in the field of Periodontics for dental students.

Ms Denise Galuoppo 
Denise completed her Dental Hygiene qualification at the University of Indiana in 1988.  She moved to Australia in 1991 and over the past 35 years has worked in private general practice.   Professionally, Denise has also gone on to complete  the Graduate Course in Advanced Dental Hygiene Technique at Pankey Institute (USA) as well as Innovation and Enterprise with Swinburne University. Denise has held many positions in the Oral Health Association of Australia including President of the Association and Chair of the Continuing Education Committee.  She has worked with Melbourne University in research and teaching and has assisted in the successful integration of preventative periodontal programs into private practices throughout Victoria.  Denise stays active within the dental associations and is currently a listed member of the Professional Standard Review Panel of  AHPRA.
