Greater Dandenong Group - “Attachment Selection and Design principles”
Enjoy CPD lecture, 1 CPD point, networking and dinner.
Attachment Selection and Design principles
This lecture explores the biomechanics and clinical applications of attachments in clear aligner therapy, highlighting their role in enhancing predictability of tooth movement.
Dr. Katie Xu provides a structured framework for aligner case planning, from initial occlusion analysis to staging, attachment placement, and the use of auxiliaries.
Key topics include the functions of attachments for retention, deep bite and open bite correction, extrusion, torque, rotation, expansion, and translation.
The lecture critically reviews conventional versus optimized attachments, addressing their design, effectiveness, and limitations, while integrating evidence from current literature.
Clinical protocols for challenging movements—such as extrusion, anterior torque, and root control—are presented alongside troubleshooting strategies, including auxiliaries, elastics, and staging modifications.
