COVID Safe Plans required throughout Victoria

Every employer in Victoria must have a COVID Safe Plan in place for their workplace by 11.59pm on 7 August 2020

Last night (6 August) we were advised by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) that the requirement for COVID-Safe Plans for permitted workplaces applies to the entire state, not just areas operating under Stage 4 restrictions (Metropolitan Melbourne).

This means that every employer in Victoria must have a COVID Safe Plan in place for their workplace by 11.59pm on 7 August 2020. The exception is businesses with fewer than five employees.

Key messages for employers:

  • Every employer must complete their COVID Safe Plan by 11.59pm on 7 August 2020. This includes employers within the healthcare and social assistance sectors.
  • While workplaces are required to have a COVID Safe Plan, it is not a requirement to use the COVID Safe Plan template.
  • Workplaces do not have to lodge their COVID Safe Plan with the Victorian Government. However, you may be required to provide your COVID Safe Plan to DHHS or WorkSafe upon request or in the event of a confirmed positive case at your workplace.
  • The COVID Safe Plan template, guidance on how to prepare your COVID Safe Plan, and additional employer obligations for workplaces that remain open under the Stage 4 restrictions can be found at business.vic.gov.au/disputes-disasters-and-succession-planning/covid-safe-business/covid-safe-plan.
